Hello There
It has been a while since I have posted on my blog, this is due to Christmas, Deadlines and generally getting back into the flow of things. Anyway now that is out of the way, here is the first of a handful of posts from my course and various other related things from the previous month and a half that I've missed out on (and dome extras which I missed the first time around)
So back in January (2014) UCS was host to the Global Games Jam (GGJ). quite a few people came along for the event this year and I have to say it was great fun. For anybody who is unaware of what a Games Jam is, it's an event in which you have a very short amount of time to create a game from scratch, usually conforming to a theme of some kind. This is not just limited to computer games but non-digital games also.
The GGJ was 48 hours with the theme of "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are" This can be interpreted in any way we see fit.
In my team there was myself, Alaric and Hannah. We decided on an element based game where we had 4 elements (Ice, Fire, Wind, Rock) and each would be strong against one and weak against another. Alaric was on the code as we decided to create the game using Flash CS6, Hannah was on Character Design and I was on effects (that unfortunately didn't make it into the final build) the level art and the animations.
I was happy with the game that we came up with especially considering it was a working game, however I would have liked to spend longer tweaking the pace of the game and also balancing the enemy's with attacks (and of course putting my weather and fire stage effects in)
The final game after the 48 hours can be found at http://www.waterfrontgames.com/game/index/93
CoH stands for Choose one Hannah as it was something we all shouted when Rob was collecting game names.
Please feel free to leave comments on the game as there is no such thing as bad feedback :)
